  14. <p>     CONVICTED. Pascal Carpenter, Emiliano Fernandez, Johnny
  15. Hincapie and Ricardo Nova, all 19, of the murder of Brian
  16. Watkins, 22, a tourist from Utah who was stabbed to death on a
  17. Manhattan subway platform last year when he tried to defend his
  18. parents from the gang of thieves; in New York City. The crime
  19. strengthened the national perception of New York City as a
  20. locale haunted by anarchic crime. The four were convicted of
  21. murder and face maximum prison sentences of 25 years to life,
  22. since the killing occurred during a robbery in which they took
  23. part, although Yull Gary Morales, the man who police say
  24. actually stabbed Watkins in the heart, and three other
  25. defendants will not stand trial until next year.
